Katherine and Travis both had a Field Day last week. They had water slides and an enclosed jumping area. It was so fun!
Since it was the end of the school year, the kids and I wanted to do something for the teachers. I've also been wanting to make a variation of Marianne's Red Velvet Cake Balls, so we made it for the teachers. I made the Red Velvet ones before, except with semi-sweet chocolate, and we loved it! I also love coconut, so for the teachers we made Coconut Pecan Cake Balls. (I called Marianne to get her approval for this combination. lol) So here's what we did. I made the Duncan Hines Coconut Supreme cake- just like on the box. Then I mixed the baked cake with Coconut Pecan frosting. Next we rolled them into balls and I dipped them into melted German chocolate and finally covered them with coconut. DELICIOUS! I gave most to the elementary teachers/staff and kept about a dozen for us. (It made 63 cake balls.)(Enlarged to show detail.)
Travis graduated from kindergarten yesterday. He was great! He got A Honor Roll and a Book It! Award with his Certificate of Completion. I couldn't believe how many kids didn't even get A-B Honor Roll. We were proud of Travis for getting such good grades, I just don't think kindergarten should have B's or C's. Anyway, here he is getting his awards:

Projects.
Johnny and I made a trundle for the kids' room. We moved Travis to the top bunk and Katherine to the trundle. We made it with two drawers and a handle in the middle. In these pictures we still had wood putty on the handle to cover the nails. We're so glad we did this- it really saves a lot of room in there.
Bryn loves it too!
We also painted/stained our master bedroom! Finally. I didn't really take any before pictures, but it was just like the other rooms before we painted them. Cream colored walls and oak/natural stain. The color we chose is called Wool Coat from Ace Hardware. It looks so much nicer and grown-up. We really like it.
Here's our icky bathroom floor before...Mopped or not it always looked dirty. The floor along the tub never had a baseboard put down, so water has always dripped onto the wood subfloor. So we've replaced the floor and will be putting trim down soon...
SO much better! BUT, once we put the floor down we realized the red upper wall clashed. We repainted it Ten Gallon Hat from Ace Hardware, which is a shade darker than our master bedroom.
Of course, it's still missing the chair rail, but that will come in the next couple weeks. We love it!
During all of these projects, Bryn decided it was time to crawl. I remember that our other kids weren't crawling/sitting up this early. I think the others sat up comfortably at 7 - 7 1/2 months and then crawled.
She's been sitting up and crawling for the last couple of weeks and I'm finally blogging about it. Sorry. In this video she isn't showing off, but it counts. She hasn't started venturing from room to room yet, but she is comfortable playing on the floor. She prefers it actually.

what a great update! i love all your home improvements!!! good job!
ReplyDeletewow! How do you have time to do it all? I get exhausted just reading about all that your family's up to! :) Are you sure you're not superwoman?
ReplyDeleteWOW! The house looks GREAT! Good job! I can't believe how fast the kids are growing up! It's so cute that Bryn didn't even notice the camera the whole time.
ReplyDeleteWow, there's a lot to talk about. The cake balls turned out so pretty with the coconut on top, good job! I definitely approve. Love the trundle bed, such a space-saver and it looks like y'all bought it from pottery barn too! Very handy! Also, love the bathroom. The tile looked great and super clean. Don't you hate when you take the time to clean stuff, but it looks the same when you're done? Our house is old, so that's what happens when I clean the kitchen floor. Congrats to the kids on their good grades! And last but not least, little Bryn looks so grown up! So cute, and amazingly flexible!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are AMAZING!! Truly an inspiration. But questions: the cake was baked, so you mixed it with frosting and it was broken up but the frosting held it into balls? That trundle is to-die-for cute. I can't wait to see it in person. I bet there's way more room in there without that extra bed! What did you put on the bottom so that it doesn't scratch the floors?? Carpet? Wheels? And that bathroom paint looks so cute--very sophisticated, especially with those light fixtures. Is that real tile? How did you know how to do that? Whenever you do your chairraling, let me know, because I gotta figure out how to finish mine up at our house...as well as those stinkin' baseboards! I'm so impressed by you guys!
ReplyDeleteThe cake was baked & the icing held it together in balls- so good! We put sliders under the bed- we got them from Ace hardware. We got the bathroom floor from Ace too- it's laminate tiles, but we didn't just stick them down. First we had to level the floor with some powder stuff we mixed up. After that dried we used a glue to lay the tiles. Lots of work- it took about a day and a half. But it was worth it!
