I have become addicted to The Weather Channel, and I don't like it. Ever since Gustav aimed it's ugly head towards us, I've been glued to the tv, AND the phone! I had to check-out yesterday and watch a Hallmark Movie just to keep my sanity! SO many phone calls that consist of "Are you going to evacuate? Where are you going to go? When are you leaving? There's a voluntary evacuation for... There's a mandatory evacuation for... starting at... The Longview Stake is where... New Orleans this and New Orleans that... blah, blah, blah!" I can't take the drama :( We lived in Vidor and had to move out of our house after Hurricane Rita, so we know what a Category 3 hurricane can do. Now that we live in East Texas, and they're forecasting it to come here Wednesday or Thursday, we may lose power, some trees, and of course, the one thing I cannot live without, electricity. Ahhhhh.
So we're home today, maybe we'll head north, maybe not. I really do NOT want to stay at a church for days. If I don't have to spend the night away from home, I don't, as a rule. lol My family down in Vidor will be evacuating north of here to a state park where they have cabins reserved; and some of my siblings will be headed west I think. Johnny's mom and brother and his family headed to Dallas and his other brothers are going to stick it out in Jasper. If this storm does the same kind of damage as Rita, Jasper and the areas south, could be without power for a month. Our county does not issue evacuations because we're not considered a coastal county, like Jasper, Newton, Jefferson, Orange, etc. We're considered a drive-thru county for evacuees. So I think that if we lost power and had trees down that we wouldn't be eligible for aide because we didn't have to evacuate--?? Maybe after the storm they'll tell what counties/parishes are considered disaster areas. We have a lot of big oak trees around our house and if we get very strong winds, we could have significant damage.
Johnny's college is north of here and since it's Labor Day weekend, we can't contact them to see if he'll have class on Tuesday. The same goes for the kids school here. Anyway, the anticipation is killing me... Time will tell how it will all work out. For now, we watch The Weather Channel and conserve our non-perishable food items.
we are in houston now because of leaving TWO days early from our vacation for MANDATORY evacuations... no fun!
