do NOT try this at home

Do you see this guy?  Recognize him?  Well you would if you watched America's Got Talent.
His name is Hairo Torres.  He's really talented {hence the show} and can make his body move in ways that are seemingly impossible.  Very entertaining.

Sunday night, Johnny and I talked about the upcoming week/month and how we wanted to be really organized with our time. {And here I am blogging. haha} We discussed our Family Home Evenings, our kids and household responsibilities {which reminds me, I need to start laundry}. We even planned what time we'd eat supper, have FHE and scriptures so we could put the kids to bed on time and still have time to workout. I love being organized ~ and I love it even more when Johnny wants to be. :)

Monday morning started out great! I did my usual Monday morning biceps/triceps/forearms and Johnny rode his bike on his trainer ~ at 5 AM! After we got ready for the day, he helped me make breakfast and get the kids off to school. Then we headed to Jasper to run errands. Soon it was time to pick the kids up and do their homework. Before I knew it, I was running late on supper. {We ended up making this tasty homemade pizza. Click here for the recipe ~ I love blogs!} Okay, so we made adjustments. Our plan could still work. Johnny and I cleaned the kitchen while the kids were getting ready for bed.  Katherine comes down the hall to us, crying. {She rarely cries. So we knew she was hurt.}  Then we saw the blood.

This brings us back to Hairo Torres. Forgot about him, didn't you? During supper, we talked about America's Got Talent {how some have it and some don't! haha! Grandma Lee.} and Katherine said how much she likes Hairo Torres.  What does she do?  She goes in her room, while we're doing dishes, and tries to be like him.  Just as a reminder of his capabilities and so you don't have to scroll up, here's the picture again:

Notice he's got his legs over his biceps and is holding up his entire body weight by the palms of his hands.
K. Now imagine little bitty Katherine trying this stunt.
{Sorry, I don't have it on video. We don't encourage this behavior.}

This is the result of said stunt:

Yes. That is was her permanent front tooth.
She hit the floor pretty hard and even scraped her nose a little.

But she'll be okay...

 in about 3 weeks.  {Her appointment is Oct. 13th}
The dentist put her on Amoxicillin for 7 days.
She had some nerve damage and they are taking care of the infection before fixing the tooth.

We hoped she wouldn't have to go to school this way. She went with me to pick up Travis and Olivia yesterday and her friends saw her tooth. All they said was, "Whoa!" That's one of the things I love about Hemphill- they don't make fun of each other :)

Hopefully the dentist will have a cancellation and be able to get her in sooner. Preferably before her 9th birthday: October 11th.

On a side-note:

I had a couple of similar experiences as a child. I wasn't a daredevil either...just clumsy I guess.
The first time, I was playing a game called Colored Eggs and I ran into my friend and hit her forehead. She got a scrape and my 2 front teeth were knocked into the roof of my mouth. That was before kindergarten. I got my permanent teeth sometime during first grade I think.
The next time, I was jumping on a trampoline without a pad, with another friend. Again- not very coordinated- I fell on the metal bar. As I was falling I thought about how it was dirty and I didn't want to get it in my mouth, but it was too late. I hit my 2 front teeth and they broke- like Katherine's- only it was both of them. Funny how history can repeat itself.
Since I had been through this, I wasn't too worried for Katherine. I knew the dentist could fix it. {Thank goodness for modern dentistry! Back in the day we'd just have broken teeth.} I was sick for her and wished it hadn't happened though. She's got a good attitude about it too :)

  3. Oh my heart goes out to her! I did the same thing in Elementary school...only it was on the stairs of a metal slide while AT school. Not only embarrassing but really hurt too. I am notorious for being embarrassed in front of others.

    Still funny that she would try it out on her own tho...hee hee.
