(To Ivan:)
My sister's paid beautiful tributes to my dad on their blogs. So, I'll echo their sentiments... My dad is such a wonderful example of perseverance and dedication. His life is a testimony of miracles. He knows everything. He was my seminary teacher, our dentist, mechanic, contractor/builder, veterinarian, small appliance repairman, a/c repairman, electrician, math teacher, political science/government teacher, football expert, gardener, etc. He was even our doctor from time to time- although he had a weak stomach for most things. He rocked us all to sleep every night when we were babies. I remember when I was 3 or 4 (?), I had eczema behind my knees and my skin would get very red and I would cry and cry. One day, maybe it was summertime or a Saturday. I remember that everyone was at home and I was screaming and crying in pain. My dad was sitting in our rocking chair holding me, with my legs stretched out after he put medicine on my sore skin. It must have been lunchtime because I remember my mom bringing him his usual two ham and cheese sandwiches, on white bread with lots of mayonnaise. And he sat with me as he ate his lunch. I've been thinking about that memory a lot lately, not sure why... But I am grateful that he cared that much.
My dad fell in love with Johnny before I did I think. He asked about him a lot while we were dating and told me that he could tell that I was happier than I had ever been, since meeting Johnny. My dad gave Johnny his blessing before Johnny could even ask for my hand in marriage. I am so thankful that my dad helped me choose my eternal companion. They get along so well and that means so much to me.
Daddy, I love you. -Jill
(To Charlie:)
Dad- Thank you for all the time you spent with me. I have learned so much from our talks, either fishing or working on a car or in the yard, or just when I needed it. Thanks for your example, for teaching me the gospel and for loving the Savior. Above all, thanks for the thoughts, prayers, and time that you have invested in being a father. I love you, Johnny
Johnny is such a wonderful father. The kids get so excited when he comes home- just the way it should be. Here's what we gave him for Father's Day:
Happy Father's Day Johnny! We love you.
Uncle Ivan is really great! your tribute only echoed that fact!
ReplyDeletehow awesome that your dad and johnny get along so well!
I loved the presents you got Johnny! That is too cute! By the way, that was the loudest wrapping paper ever! ;)
ReplyDeleteNice presents! Are those puzzles really for kids, because I don't think they want to see the brain and intestines. It's perfect for Johnny though. I liked the group hug at the end, so cute!
